Lahore’s Hafeez Center Has Caught Fire Once Again

  A fierce fire has torn through Lahore’s prominent electronics market, Hafeez Centre in Gulberg, today amid persistent monsoon rains. Social media footage shows the entire five‑storey  building shrouded in black smoke, while heavy rain has flooded surrounding roads. Inside the centre, plumes of smoke billowed through charred corridors and shops, many of which appear to have suffered severe damage. Police and Rescue 1122 emergency teams were dispatched rapidly, working to bring the fire under control. The full scale of destruction remains undetermined. Authorities are still assessing whether the building’s structure has been compromised, and shopkeepers face concerns about destroyed stock and lost business days. Officials have yet to confirm the cause of the fire, but will likely launch an investigation into electrical faults or structural failures in light of past safety violations. The daughter of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has continually been in touch with her mixed Emirati and Greek roots. And it seems her new Instagram name, “Xtianna,” pays homage to her birth name, Christina, a thoughtful nod to her Greek heritage through her mother, Zoe Grigorakos. Death toll in Karachi building collapse rises to 16, search continues for survivors

  KARACHI: The death toll in the Lyari building collapse rose to 16 on Saturday as more bodies have been recovered under the debris, rescue officials confirmed. Karachi building collapse The recovery operation continued for a second day. The devastating incident occurred as a six-storey residential building collapsed in the Baghdadi area of Lyari, Karachi. The rescue officials reported that nine individuals, including five women, have been rescued in injured condition and are being treated. Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that around 20 people are believed to be trapped under the debris, with rescue operations currently underway to save those still buried. During a rescue operation, 19 individuals were rescued from the rubble, as confirmed by Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab.
