 Main Suspect Arrested After Viral Video of Citizen Assault in Karachi’s DHA

Police have arrested Salman Farooqi, the primary suspect involved in the brutal assault of a citizen in Karachi’s upscale Defense neighborhood, Aaj News reported.


KARACHI – A significant development occurred in the case of a citizen's assault in Karachi's Defence Housing Authority (DHA), as the main suspect was apprehended following the circulation of a disturbing video that went viral on social media.

The incident took place on May 31, 2025, when a minor collision occurred between a Land Cruiser and a motorcycle in DHA Phase 6. The driver of the Land Cruiser, identified as Salman Farooqi, reportedly responded by physically assaulting the motorcyclist with the assistance of his armed security guard and driver. 

The assault was captured on video by eyewitnesses and quickly spread across social media platforms, prompting public outrage.

In response to the viral footage, law enforcement agencies launched a swift investigation. Salman Farooqi, the owner of a private company, was arrested by the police. His security guard and driver had been apprehended earlier, and the vehicle involved in the incident was seized.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect was being held in custody and was undergoing interrogation. The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed for safety reasons, is reportedly recovering and has provided a formal statement to the police.

The incident has sparked widespread discussions about the need for greater accountability and security in affluent neighborhoods like DHA. 

Senior officials have assured the public that justice will be served and such acts of violence will not be tolerated. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of swift legal action in addressing incidents of assault and upholding the rule of law.

Eyewitness Account

Muhammad Saleem, a sales manager at a mobile company, reported that he had gone to Ittihad Commercial to recover dues when the incident took place around 8:15pm. According to his statement, a motorcyclist was involved in a minor accident while he was accompanied by women also. 

Salman Farooqi, who was driving the car, physically assaulted the motorcyclist, and along with his armed guard, forcibly confined the motorcyclist in the car at gunpoint. He then beat the man, abused him, and threatened him.

The FIR further states that the women accompanying the motorcyclist pleaded with Farooqi with folded hands, but he allegedly pushed and threatened them. Saleem said he and many others witnessed the incident and recorded videos.

He came forward to report the incident as a responsible citizen, he maintained. The investigation is currently underway, with more arrests and evidence collection expected.
